On the heels of a family tragedy, the last thing Katie Greene wants to do is move halfway across the world. Stuck with her aunt in Shizuoka, Japan, Katie feels lost. Alone. She doesn’t know the language, she can barely hold a pair of chopsticks, and she can’t seem to get the hang of taking her shoes off whenever she enters a building.

Then there’s gorgeous but aloof Tomohiro, star of the school’s kendo team. How did he really get the scar on his arm? Katie isn’t prepared for the answer. But when she sees the things he draws start moving, there’s no denying the truth: Tomo has a connection to the ancient gods of Japan, and being near Katie is causing his abilities to spiral out of control. If the wrong people notice, they'll both be targets.

Katie never wanted to move to Japan—now she may not make it out of the country alive.

I already expected that this book is something Japan related because of the front cover, it's obvious especially when you are an anime fan or you read manga (like me). It was really like a manga to me except it has no drawings every pages, that's one of the reasons why I enjoy this book, another thing is I love the story. The typical high school story and they all in-love despite the differences.  At first I was confused and wondering why the title is Ink, the deeper I read the more I understand and my questions are answered. While reading this I was like reading a manga or watching an anime, specially when it was talking about their powers. It is awesome! Now I miss watching anime's. I really enjoyed reading this book, I like it and the characters are cool specially Tomohiro and Jun.

Katie Greene moves in Japan when her mother died, she's living with her aunt Diane. Katie's having a hard time to absorb the Japan culture and she have to learn their language. In their school, she barely understand her professors and classmates. Her only friend is Yuki and Tanaka. She was suddenly bothered by Tomohiro since she saw him with Myu in their break-up fight and she saw Tomohiro's drawing move. That's the reason why she decided to stalk Tomohiro until they fall in-love with each other revealing the deepest secret of Tomohiro. They were suddenly involved to the Yakuza and other unexpected group who hunt down Tomohiro and Katie. Jun saved both of them in the Yakuza yet he also have his own deepest secret which makes Katie doubt everything about him. When things get weirder and Tomohiro and Katie was able to get out of it somehow, Katie received something from her Grandparents and she's thinking if she will leave Tomohiro alone or stay despite the challenges that they are going to face.

The thing is, I'm not that satisfied with the ending why? BECAUSE I want to read more and suddenly it's over! I was ready to read what's the next one then when I flipped that page it's over. It makes me sad though, because I have to wait yet I'm not ready for it. (LOL). I like the book and finished it while at work. I had a great time reading it. And I learned a lot of Japanese words, which is awesome! I can understand the anime more. I'm glad I was able to read this because since I heard about it on Twitter and saw the cover I really wanna read.
My Rating

Amanda Sun

I’m a YA author and proud Nerdfighter. I was born in Deep River, Canada, a very small town without traffic lights or buses, and where stranger safety is comprised of what to do if you see a bear—or skunk. I started reading fantasy novels at 4 and writing as soon as I could hold a pencil. Hopefully my work’s improved since then.

In university I took English, Linguistics, and Asian History, before settling into Archaeology, because I loved learning about the cultures and stories of ancient people. Of course, I didn’t actually become an archaeologist—I have an intense fear of spiders. I prefer unearthing fascinating stories in the safety of my living room.

The Paper Gods is inspired by my time living in Osaka and travelling throughout Japan. That and watching far too many J-Dramas. I currently live in Toronto with my husband and daughter. When I’m not writing, I’m devouring YA books, knitting nerdy things like Companion Cubes and Triforce mitts, and making elaborate cosplays for anime cons.
