Book Review: Illusions of Fate by Kiersten White

Dive into a world of enchantment and romance in this lush fantasy, which Stephanie Perkins, international bestselling author of Anna and the French Kiss, called "an absolute delight—a magical, sparkling, dangerous world with witty repartee and a romance that will light your heart on fire." Fans of Libba Bray and Cassandra Clare will fall in love with this captivating stand-alone novel from Kiersten White, New York Times bestselling author of the Paranormalcy trilogy.

Jessamin has been an outcast since she moved from her island home of Melei to the dreary country of Albion. Everything changes when she meets the gorgeous, enigmatic Finn, who introduces her to the secret world of Albion's nobility, a world that has everything Jessamin doesn't—power, money, status . . . and magic. But Finn has secrets of his own, and the vicious Lord Downpike will do anything to possess them. Unless Jessamin, armed only with her wits, can stop him.
I've been curious about this book for so long and finally I get the chance to read and finish it. I'm in love with the cover specially those black birds in there. For me it's like the book is in the medieval period, the way how people talked and how the lines are made. It was cool tho, like really am reading something that is from the past.

The flow of the story is interesting, I am curious to what will happen to Jessamin, what FATE does she have. Also, the LOVE between her and Lord Ackerly is really cute. She's a bit hard on Lord Ackerly a.k.a Finn but still their love story is lovely. I find it cute in some way but I feel bad for Finn in some parts of the book.

What I didn't like about the book is that I feel like the story is slow. I was waiting for the action or a big twists but it didn't happen aside from the revelation that I wasn't able to guess because I didn't even think it that way and then how the villain died, well I expect more maybe brutally? LOL. BUT I love the ending. That ending of the story made the book exciting. Geez. I really thought there will be no happy ending but.. heeyyy I loved it. I hope there's more though, I feel like it is a cliffhanger in there, to be honest it made my heart ache.

Well... I guess that's it. I like the book all in all. I enjoyed reading it even if I have to sneak in to work just to read a few pages (yes I did that). It was worth it.

PS. I took a photo of my book copy.

My Ratings

Hi! I'm the New York Times best-selling author of Paranormalcy and Supernaturally. I also give the most awkward hugs in the world. You should probably opt for one of my books over one of my hugs, but then again, maybe you like awkward hugs.

As for me, I like writing flirting scenes, and fighting scenes, and sometimes I write scenes that fall somewhere in between the two, but only if I can't avoid it.
