Punk rock band Mutilated Arteries has been seventeen-year-old
Becca's world (aka obsession) for the last year. When the band schedules
a concert in her hometown, she and her best friend Carli are the first
ones in line to buy tickets. The night is everything she expects it to
be and more, especially after making friends with the new super-cute
bassist, Sketch.
Becca's mom warns her not to fall for a rock star
because rock stars are always on the road - or they die in a plane
crash, like her mom's favorite band did twenty-something years ago. But
after the band's tour bus breaks down and they're stuck hanging out in
Roizen Hills for a week, it's hard for Becca not to fall for Sketch and
his caricature drawings and toxic green eyes.
Becca knows Sketch is leaving as soon as the bus is
fixed, and she can't be his fan-turned-girlfriend anyway because of the
lead singer's "No Girlfriends" rule. Plus, there's something strange
about the guys that Becca can't quite decipher... like how they won't
reveal their real names, their always-changing odd appearances, and the
guitarist's obsession with blood and zombies. Still, Becca wants nothing
more than for Sketch to mutilate her heart...but it just might not be
in a way she expects.
I already know that this book will be about a band (rock band) and a girl fell in love with one of the members, if you've read American Girl On Saturn by Nikki Godwin, this band was mentioned and to be honest I like both books, it's not complicated and it is enjoyable to read.The story just flows without side story and yet it stays beautiful. Another thing is because I myself is a band lover and I can relate.
I like Becca, I can relate to here; lemme share my story, the first time I attended a concert and it was my favorite band ever, Linkin Park, yes you read it right! I did everything just to see them perform and the excitement and fangirling is all there, mixed emotions, concert hangover and whatever it is hard to explain. Back to Becca, I know what she felt, I can relate to her and she's a lucky girl for she was able to meet her favorite band face to face (I wasn't able to do that). I can picture her reactions and all. She's too pretty and cool for not the be recognized. Mutilated Arteries, I picture them as a cool band with cool songs, something that I will like. I can imagine My Chemical Romance with them because of how the author described the band. They're so cool yet something big is hidden behind their pretty faces. Since I knew the secret... I DIDN'T expect it to be like that, my reaction was weird! my eyes almost popped out and I'm full of "whats", I put down the book for a while and there's goose bumps in every part of my body! It's kinda creepy, weird and gross! I dunno.. how to react in a way that I will not freaked out, this book is lovely! I assure you that, you'll never get bored reading it. It's a cute story, you'll fall in love with it and the twists are really BIG!
By the way, the cover and the title somehow shows it all, I mean what kind of story this is and so on. It finally sinks in why Mutilate My Heart. There's no exact word or phrases for this, I don't know if this is enough but, it is cool and fantastic!
To the author Emily Godwin, you did a good job here, I really didn't expect that and to Dianne, thank you once again for this tour, it's awesome and to Nikki, yes you are here! Thank you for helping Emily to build this one. I love you both so much! You're cool and amazing and your taste in music is beyond awesome! I can relate so yeah.. Rock n' Roll!
